The Wedgewood Golf Course

This beautiful tree-lined 18-hole championship golf course, with generous undulating fairways, provides a feeling of wide open space and a certain "country" ambiance to the golfers who grace the course. Widely recognised by the golfing community as one of the most interesting and truly challenging golf courses in the Eastern Cape, Wedgewood will soon be upgraded into the most spectacular golf estate in the region.

The R22 million reconstruction of the golf course includes a total redesign, incorporating four large new lakes covering 4ha of additional surface water on the front nine holes that will be a feature for the adjacent residential properties. This will both enhance the scenery and raise the challenge for players on what was previously a relatively flat portion of the course. The back nine holes, characterised by a picturesque valley with existing water features, wetlands and streams, will be upgraded and modernised in line with 21st century golfing experience.

Golf course design and construction specialists Golf Data are responsible for the project. With an impressive resume; 20% of their courses are listed in the Golf Digest’s Top 100 courses in South Africa with 4 being awarded Best New Golf Course, all making Golf Data a leader on the greens. Golf Data believes in building solid golfing and financial investments.

A clubhouse will be built overlooking the finishing 9th and 18th greens. The project also includes the installation of a new fully automated irrigation system for tees, greens and fairways with treated effluent water. In addition, a return drainage system will allow the course to reuse much of the run-off and seepage water from the course. The greens will be Creeping Bentgrass, while in keeping with PPH's environmental commitment, the existing Cynoden Grass will be retained on the fairways and tees.

Wedgwood Park Country Club is the former host of the South African premier international golf tournament, the General Motors Invitational and has seen the likes of Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Seve Ballesteros, Peter Oosterhuis, Harold Henning, Hugh Baiocchi and Ernie Els grace its fairways over the years. The Club holds special memories for our very own Gary Player, because it was at Wedgwood that Gary won his 100th professional tournament.

Medical and Healthcare centre facilities
